Annotation: Describes the life of Thomas Edison from his boyhood beginnings in Ohio, through the jobs of his youth and his nack for invention, to the founding of his own laboratory. Includes two pages that descibe 10 of his over 1,000 inventions, a selected bibliography and list of websites.
In my invention notebook, I have a drawing of a robot mowing the lawn and picking up doggie doo. I also came up with an idea of a heated toilet seat. I'm all about inventions. That's why I chose to read and review the book,
Young Thomas Edison by Michael Dooling.
This book challenged me to keep going farther with my inventions. I learned that you should never give up thinking of all sorts of things that could help everyone. After reading this book, I found out that Edison and I are alike in many ways. Edison's mom took him out of school and taught him at home because he was daydreaming all the time. My mom teaches me at home too. School was too slow for Edison because he was a genius. Even though he had bad hearing that didn't stop him from inventing. Edison's life was hard but he never gave up. He failed once in a while but he never gave up. What impressed me about Edison is that he started inventing when he was my age. He enjoyed doing experiments just like I do. Because Edison had no TV, radio, telephone or the chance to go to movies, he had more time to invent.
This book was easy to understand and the large pictures helped me to imagine what Edison was like and how he lived back then. After reading this book, it makes me want to read more books about Edison. I give this book 5 stars because it kept my attention and inspired me to become an inventor someday. I want to work hard like Thomas Edison and maybe I will be able to help change the world.
