This amazing book, called The Top Of The World Climbing Mount Everest is about what gear you need, and all of the zones on this extreme, famous mountain. Steve Jenkins researched and wrote this fun, fact filled book.

After reading this book, I found out all of the gear and things that would be needed if you were going to climb Mount Everest. It fascinated me when I found out you need glacier glasses because upper Mount Everest can be sunny, and the snow reflects highly. In addition I discovered other special important gear needed includes trekking poles, crampons, an ice ax, and many more things. There are more than 100 zones on this freezing extreme mountain. In this book it said that the Death zone is biggest of all, and it takes up nearly the entire mountain! This book filled me with inspiration and wonder about how you can actually survive on Mount Everest.

The information was very clear, and well presented. It was neat when Steve Jenkins illustrated each article of equipment attached with a description. The illustrations in this book are made by cut paper collage. They are wonderful, colorful, and very detailed. However if you are looking for actual photos of Mount Everest this book does not provide them. On the last page of the book bibliography will help you find a book that may contain actual photos of this mountain. A list of the seven summits, Mount Everest records, and two websites are other reader resources listed. The Top Of The World Climbing Mount Everest is a book I highly recommend. Reading nonfiction is not always fun, but Steve Jenkins presented his information in a way that makes me want to turn each page. If you want to read and learn about Mount Everest, this is a fun, fact filled five star book for you!
