Annotation: Inspired by Gerald and Lee Durrell's 1982 classic, this new edition makes nature accessible to everyone. Bishop begins with the fundamentals of nature study: basic skills, equipment, and rules of conduct while out in the field. Later chapters are devoted to animal groups: birds, mammals, fish, reptiles and amphibians, and insects. Beautiful color photographs and text written in an engaging, familiar style make this volume an excellent guide for showing you how to look, investigate and enjoy your natural surroundings. Each chapter contains a project or experiment. Lengthy list of organizations related to conservation and further study, a list of suppliers for equipment, list of books for further reading, and index included.
