Annotation: Roy Chapman Andrews led five scientific expeditions to the Gobi Desert in Mongolia between 1922 and 1930 and uncovered some amazing fossils, including the first-ever complete nest of dinosaur eggs. He had a love for adventure that took him all over the world throughout his life, and this book is full of his stories, photos from his expeditions, and quotes like "Always there has been an adventure just around the corner - and the world is still full of corners!" Index, Resource Guide, and Chronology included.

Dragon Bones and Dinosaur Eggs by Anne Bausum is a biography of Roy Chapman Andrews, though it mainly focuses on his trek through the Gobi Desert of Mongolia. This book is brilliantly written, I can assure you. It's also very exciting. You wouldn't want to put it down.

My most favorite part of the book is a little adventure, which takes place at a spot in the Gobi that Andrews and his crew later named Viper Camp. Norman Lovell, one of the crew, was sleeping when he heard a hiss. Lovell sat up to see a pit viper crossing the entrance of his tent. He leaned over his cot to see a viper coiled around each wooden leg. Good thing there was a rock hammer nearby. Cries flowed across the camp as the others made similar discoveries. Mainly excitement is one of the strengths of the book. The other is the way the author combines paleontology with adventure. Of course, there were no weaknesses. The information is nice and clear. Rather, I would love to learn more about Andrews. He is one of my heroes. I want to become an explorer just like him.

The photos were easy to see. But they were black and white. Color would have helped. There were captions under or beside the pictures. Did I mention that these were real photos from Andrews' journey?

In the back of the book, there was a list of related readings, some of them by Andrews himself. I think there was a list of videos, too. Dragon Bones and Dinosaur Eggs reminded me of the reason I wanted to be an explorer. It inspires me to look forward to the future.

Dragon Bones and Dinosaur Eggs is a great and amazing book. It deserves a 5 out of 5 star rating. It should receive top honors and become a full Cornerstones book.
