Annotation: Scott Weidensaul retraces Roger Tory Peterson's and James Fisher's coastline hugging journey of North America to document the changes that have taken place in wild America fifty years later. Written travelogue style, includes black & white photos, extensive notes and biliography.
In 1953, birder Roger Tory Peterson and British naturalist James Fisher made a 100-day, thirty-thousand mile trek around North America and published their account,
Wild America, two years later. Naturalist Scott Weidensaul has retraced their steps nearly 50 years later, and writes his own account of what he found. At times distressing, at times hopeful, this account documents the changes in landscape and wildlife that he encountered, as well as areas that remain still vibrant and unchanged.
