Tiger Rescue
By Dan Bortolotti

I have always been fascinated with tigers. Who does not love these regal beasts who prowl through the jungles of Asia? When I saw the face of a majestic tiger gazing at me from the cover of Tiger Rescue: Changing the Future for Endangered Wildlife by Dan Bortolotti, I knew this was the book I wanted to read and review.

Arranged in sections that vary between information about tigers and profiles of individuals involved in tiger rescue and conservation, this book captures your interest. For example, facts about tiger habitat, behavior and study are followed by an article about scientists working around the clock to save China’s tigers. Another interesting feature of the book is a time line following the history of the tiger in human culture. Colorful yet sometimes heart wrenching, the pictures help to emphasize the majesty of the tiger and also the threat to this endangered species. I was especially affected by the picture of a captive tiger who had rubbed his face raw on the bars of the cage.

Instead of leaving you feeling hopeless, the book ends with several brief chapters about how you can help to save the tigers. By reading this book and visiting some of the web sites, I learned new things about tigers and how I can get involved in tiger rescue. Out of five stars, I would give this book six! Tiger Rescue should receive top honors as a Cornerstone of Science book.
