The Revenge of
Gaia
by James Lovelock
|
The
Revenge of the Gaia, written by James Lovelock, is a well developed
book discussing the changing world as we know it due to global climate
change. Lovelock presents a current theory about the direction that
the world is heading. Lovelock describes the biosphere and the thin
spherical center of the earth’s interior as the Gaia. This part
of the earth is responsible for regulating the climate and chemistry
at a state that is comfortable for life. The book portrays the earth
as being alive. This book was a fascinating read and taught a great
deal about how the earth works to control its own wellbeing. However,
it was also evident through the reading that the earth cannot be fully
responsible for regulating itself. It is our job as human beings to
limit the impact that we have on the earth by reducing use of fossil
fuels. This book is incredibly important to read at this time, because
global climate change currently threatens the survival of human beings
and other species.
The story by James Lovelock is essential to our current scientific
understanding of the severity of climate change. Lovelock notices
that the majority of the world doesn’t understand the seriousness
of limiting our consumption of fossil fuels. This story was fascinating
to me because I am very interested in knowing more about climate change.
In my opinion, it is the most important scientific question of our
time. Despite the complicated topic, James Lovelock presented the
information in a clear and understandable way. Also, at the end of
the book, there is a glossary which explains some of the more confusing
ideas. This glossary was important in further understanding the story.
The entire book made me think about what I was doing to prevent further
climate change. After completing the book, I comprehend that climate
change is more prevalent than ever. I would love to learn even more
about global climate change in the future.
My overall opinion on the book is that it is an important book for
people of all ages to read. Climate change affects us all, and without
changing our habits, the world will never be the same. I enjoyed reading
about a topic that is so important to current society. For the book’s
clarity and interesting points, I would give the book a five out of
five rating. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn
more about where the future of the earth is headed, and ways to hinder
than downward spiral.
