Interrupted Journey
Saving Endangered Sea Turtles
by Kathryn Lasky
Book Review
Interrupted Journey
by Kathryn Lasky brings the reader on a journey of discovery. This book taught me about the everyday struggles of a sea turtle. It gave me hope that sea turtles, despite the dangers threatening them, won’t become extinct, because people are doing things to help protect them. I found the layout of the story to be neat and organized and believe this will help the reader find his or her way through the story.

Some of the struggles the turtles have are when they are first born. Humans are their most dangerous predator. Most of the time humans don’t know that they are harming these creatures because they are in motor boats. They can be attacked by seagulls and larger sea creatures. The turtles that find a clump of seaweed early on have a better chance of survival because it protects them and nourishes them with plentiful amounts of food. Although humans are a threat to sea turtles they can be an incredible amount of help. For instance, if volunteers see a turtle laying eggs, they wait until it’s done and put a small fabric hut over them or dig up them out and bring them to a turtle rescue preserve. The layout of this book was easy to follow. The text was easy to read and there were not too many words to a page. The photographs by Christopher Knight were amazing and helped tell the story and make it clearer.

This was very good book and I would give it a four and a half star rating out of five. I would suggest this book to grades 4-6, especially if they are interested in marine biology. This was definitely my favorite non-fiction book I read this year.
