Almost Gone: The World’s Rarest Animals
by Steve Jenkins

Annotation
“Almost Gone” begins by asking the reader, why care if a species dies out? Using the chickadee as an example Jenkins deftly explains why the chickadee, and in turn every species, is important to the survival of other plants and animals. Highlighted on the pages that follow are the descriptions and cut-out style illustrations of twenty-one species that are severely at risk of becoming extinct, four species that are extinct, and three that are coming back from being on the verge of extinction. A map at the back of the book shows the native land for each animal he describes. Recommended by the publisher for ages 5-9.
