Book Review

Actual Size by author / illustrator Steve Jenkins is a spectacular book. The book shows the actual size of a giant squid’s eye, a crocodiles head, and many other animals. The various paper illustrations are amazing and stand out. They look real, and show the true scale.

I really enjoyed the torn paper illustrations. I particularly like the crocodiles head because the texture of the paper looks real and alive. I also enjoyed the tiny pygmy mouse lemur. The eyes and the fuzzy fur around the head look very realistic. The detail in the hands and feet are precise.

The writing in this book is simple and clear. The illustrations give more information and the writing adds to them. In the back of the book there is more information about the various animals and more details. I highly recommend this book for any elementary school kids. I give this book 4 ½ stars out of 5.
