Jocelyn Hubbell

Jocelyn Hubbell is Executive Director of Cornerstones of Science. She holds a B.S. in Environmental Interpretation from Colorado State University, 1983. While working as an interpretive naturalist and law enforcement ranger for the City of Boulder Open Space Department she helped to research the bats, bears, and wildcats of Colorado and developed the Mountain Lion on the Mall lion awareness program. She served as the Education and Outreach Specialist and brought science to the citizens through hands-on educational programming that highlighted on-going research projects on Open Space lands. Jocelyn also served on the Board of Directors of the Boulder County Audubon Society and as Executive Director of the Colorado Bat Society.

In 1996 Jocelyn left Colorado for NYC where she became the Wildlife Conservation Society's Senior Educator at Prospect Park Wildlife Center. Here she assisted in the development of the Brooklyn Cultural Adventures Program for youth, a cooperative effort of the Wildlife Center, the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, Brooklyn Library, and Brooklyn Parks & Recreation Department. She developed and taught the Young Naturalists program, designed and presented the curriculum for NYC's 1998 Envirothon, developed and presented teacher trainings, school and public programs, managed the education staff and care of thirty-one education animals. Jocelyn also contracted with the American Museum of Natural History's Center for Biodiversity, helping to produce an environmental education manual for educators in the tropics: Biodiversity Education at Interpretive Centers, and taught environmental programs for Brooklyn College and the Brooklyn Center for Cultural Exchange.

In the autumn of 1998 Jocelyn moved to Maine to return to her New England roots and spend more time with her parents. From 1998 to 2002 she was Maine Audubon's Camps and Outreach Program Manager. She also wrote her first children's book Know-It-Alls Frogs!

Jocelyn continues her wildlife work as a volunteer for The Lobster Conservancy by monitoring juvenile lobsters in Harpswell. She also is a volunteer for the Cumberland County Extension Service.

Jocelyn joined Curtis Memorial Library and Cornerstones of Science in November of 2002.
